2 Esdras 6:39 . . . elaborates on the primeval darkness and formlessness before creation to add a new description: . . . 'the Spirit was hovering, and darkness and silence embraced everything" . . . but on the Sabbath it ended in the restful silence of a world fully formed and structured, . . . as the heavens told the glory of God without the aid of words or speech.
